The Graphic Designer of The Catholic Journalist is responsible for the layout of the Catholic Media Association's monthly member newspaper. This 8-page publication publishes 10 times a year, August through May; the annual 96-page Awards Issue is published in June, and there is no issue in July.
The newspaper plays an important role in informing members about the association’s initiatives, upcoming events, industry trends, and news from across the organization. The Graphic Designer works with the Editor to ensure that the newspaper reflects the diverse voices and interests of Catholic media professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Layout for monthly newspaper (8 pages, 10 issues annually).
- Layout for awards issues (about 96 pages, 1 issue annually).
- Upload files to printer’s website and approve page proofs.
- Share final packaged files and PDF for the website.
- Design ads occasionally.
- Manage deadlines and ensure timely delivery of each issue to members.
Qualifications
- Experience as a Graphic Designer.
- Expertise in Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop.
- Familiarity with typography, layout design, and data management in InDesign.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail.
Employment Details
This freelance position is paid a monthly stipend and is budgeted for about 6-8 hours per month.
