The editor of The Catholic Journalist leads the editorial direction of the Catholic Media Association's monthly member newspaper. This 8-page publication publishes 11 times a year, August through May; the annual 96-page Awards Issue is published in June, and there is no issue in July.
The newspaper plays an important role in informing members about the association’s initiatives, upcoming events, industry trends, and news from across the organization. The editor works with the Communications Committee, CMA staff, contributors, and members to ensure that the newspaper reflects the diverse voices and interests of Catholic media professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and manage the content of the monthly member newspaper.
- Source, edit, and curate articles and contributions from staff, members, and freelance writers.
- Manage deadlines and ensure timely delivery of each issue to members.
- Ensure the Graphic Designer has content needed for the layout and design of the newspaper.
- Serve as a point of contact for member inquiries and contributions related to the newspaper.
Qualifications
- Proven editorial experience, preferably within Catholic media.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Employment Details
This freelance position is paid a monthly stipend and is budgeted for about 8-10 hours per month.
